Have you heard of the Emotional Freedom Techniques otherwise known as tapping? Founded by Gary Craig, it is a healing modality that allows a person to stimulate the meridians of the body while meditating on a specific issue you’d like to heal or transform. The claim is that by tuning into an issue while working the body that a problem can be solved in minutes or hours rather than through a long course of conventional therapy. The idea is that the body keeps the score and that our memories are not the root of pain, but where these stories have landed in the body’s energy flow and blocked it is the problem.
EFT is a marvelous tool for re-patterning ourselves. It’s simple, effective, free, and can be done anywhere at anytime to help us hit the reset button. Even children can do it! My first encounter with this modality was back in 2010 when my family was in a health crisis and I was looking for a cure for cancer. Yes, you read that right! I was looking for a simple cure for cancer when I happened upon this funny little technique. The truth is the person I hoped would try it – never got the chance. However, that did not discourage me from learning more about it and deploying this method to calm my nervous system and to assuage stress.
Tapping for health is based on the premise that “the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.” When we bring the body into balance, many things that are influencing us can swing back into ease and the present moment. What I love about EFT is that, like Kundalini, it doesn’t require us to dredge up past trauma, but rather to let go of painful memories. We get to work on the way our bodies have kept the score. By reliving trauma in detail, we can create more trauma in our own bodies.
EFT is so easy you can learn it in 5 simple steps with 9 learned points, which can be done in about 30 seconds. I am including some great graphics from Gary’s website to help you find these 9 points. We move in this sequence lightly tapping on each spot while repeating a simple script.
Top of the Head (TOH)
Beginning of the Eyebrow (EB)
Side of the Eye (SE)
Under the Eye (UE)
Under the Nose (UN)
Chin Point (CH)
Beginning of the Collarbone (CB)
Under the Arm (UA)
We tap each spot lightly while repeating this phrase- filling in the blank with the ailment you are aiming to heal.
“Even though I have this _________________*, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
*In my case I will say “anxiety,” you could say diabetes or hip pain or tumor – whatever it is you are healing- this can also be extended to debts or abundance issues, employment issues etc. EFT can be used because there is an endless list of life challenges and most of them can be met as an energetic disruption when not in a good flow.
